How to stay safe with RentOK requests

RentOK is a unique feature meant to facilitate safe payments on the Kamernet platform. It is created and maintained exclusively by Kamernet for our customers.
However, scammers are trying to impersonate Kamernet while pretending to represent our company by sending fake emails with payment requests.

If a RentOK request for rent payment is legitimate, it always comes through Kamernet messages first. Only after receiving the request via Kamernet, will you also receive a confirmation email containing the details of the agreement. This email is sent to both the email addresses of the landlord who requests the payment and the tenant who is asked to pay.

Prior to the RentOK request being sent, it is expected that:

  1. Users had chat (exchanged messages) on Kamernet
  2. Had a real or online viewing
  3. Possible documents exchange took place (For example from landlord: papers confirming ownership, copy of ID: from tenant: copy of ID, confirmation of university enrolment or the payslip/ letter from guarantors)
N.B. This is by far not mandatory but a highly recommended step in order to establish trust between the parties.
  4. Contract was signed by both parties

And only as a next step would the RentOK request follow. If you received a request before the above steps were completed, that might be suspicious.

Important thing to keep in mind is that if you received an email but no request via Kamernet messages, or if you don’t even have an account on Kamernet, this is most likely a scam email. Please reach out to our service desk for support on that matter.

Please be aware of these fake requests and make sure to never reply to a RentOK request that has been sent randomly to your email address. By using RentOK on the Kamernet platform, users can protect themselves from potential scams and fraudulent activities while also enjoying a more streamlined and efficient rental process.
